Getting to Know
I listened to a public radio segment wondering about the lack of protest about some ridiculous wiggling to keep a terribly unfair situation continuing… It doesn’t matter what it was – it always is.
But a lot of you who read this are out to make a difference. I’m wondering what people have to do to get noticed, to be heard, to get to more ears and eyes.
The Awakening the Dreamer, Changing the Dream symposium uses the metaphor of germinal cells. These start as a small number of cells in the caterpillar. But they ultimately so expand that they withstand the resistance of the white cells and consume the caterpillar which results in its transformation into a butterfly.
There are well over a million sites committed to effecting positive change in our environment, our social justice here and abroad and to our spiritual growth. (according to Paul Hawken Blessed Unrest).
The point is that the knowing that we exist is the fuel for the knowledge to spread. It’s happening.
I have a funny way of knowing this. We’ll never know the outcome, so I’m picking the winners now. My mind and heart are my investment in an unknown future.
The foundation stone of the whole scheme is service. Service to the people, a service that will lighten, brighten, and make more profitable the lives of the majority who do the necessary work of the world.
I am certain that after the dust of centuries has passed over our cities, we, too, will be remembered not for victories or defeats in battle or in politics,
but for our contribution to the human spirit.
John F. Kennedy
The secret of happiness is something to do.
Our deeds still travel with us from afar, and what we have been makes us what we are.
We always say, “when the dust settles,…”
Our images are gladiators
in the arena,
invisible in the clouds of combat
Or a cloud of dust
masking home plate,
waiting for the dust
to settle and the umpire to say safe
But the time is long,
not the simple spin of the roulette wheel
to find the final number,
the odd or even, the red or blue
What long tomorrow is it?
The next election
My next new grandson’s birth,
Or far beyond my final death.
I’ll pick the winner now.
